Blues defeated again as Stourbridge play a nap hand

Leiston lost 5-1 once again for the second week in a row on Saturday as hosts Stourbridge won 5-1 in the West Midlands.

The Blues welcomed back William Davies into the squad while captain Kyle Hammond and Harry Knights remained sidelined through injury. Rhys Henry started in place of Joshua Hitter, who took his place on the bench.

The Blues began the match on the back foot as fifth placed Stourbridge looked to get a firm grip on the match. However, it was Leiston who took the lead in the ninth minute. QUEVIN CASTRO, who made his debut last Saturday, let fly from all of 25 yards out to beat home keeper James Wren. Oody Fisher tried his luck from long range moments later from distance but his shot went well over Charlie Beckwith’s crossbar. Good play from Thomas Thurton allowed him to set up Greg Mills but Beckwith made a good save in the Blues goal. The visitors did level in the 24th minute as JORDAN WILLIAMS headed home from a corner. Just seven minutes later, MICHAEL TAYLOR dribbled through the Blues defence and produce a deft lob to chip Beckwith and put Stourbridge in the lead. Beckwith had to be at his best to push over an effort from Kristian Green as the match neared the interval and Stourbridge were getting stronger.

Blues manager Stuart Boardley made a triple substitution at the break, with Siju Odelusi, Joshua Hitter and William Davies replaced George Forrest, Jerry Kamanzi and Sebastia Pons Llado. Stourbridge netted their third of the match eight minutes after half time after a good run into the box by Cody Fisher was fired into the net by MICHAEL TAYLOR to score his second of the contest. The match was finished shortly as Thomas Thurton passed to GREG MILLS from a free kick and he smashed home to net a fourth for the home side. Sub William Davies did go close for Leiston but James Wren saved well in goal. ‘The Glassboys’ adder their fifth and final goal of the match when sub THOMAS TONKS produced a sublime lob over Beckwith into the top corner. Stourbridge went close with just a few seconds to go as they hit the crossbar via Greg Mills but it was already job done.

Leiston will now have to pick themselves up again as they host Biggleswade Town at home on Tuesday evening in a 7.45pm kick off.
