Leiston went down to a third home loss of the season on Tuesday night, losing 4-0 to Biggleswade Town in a match sponsored by CLEVER CLOGS DAY NURSERY.
New manager Ian Cornforth took charge of his first game after Stuart Boardley’s resignation on Monday and brought Siju Odelusi and Joshua Hitter into the starting eleven in place of George Forrest and Quevin Castro.
After an uneventful first few minutes, Solomon Sambou had the first chance of the match in the 11th minute when, after a good away team move he shot over from close range. Just four minutes later, the ball was worked to Matthew Miles on the edge of the area and he shot against the base of Charlie Beckwith’s right hand post. Beckwith was called into action to make a good stop from Joseph White at an angle halfway through the first period, but Biggleswade did take the lead in the 30th minute when initially a free-kick was cleared but from the resultant ball into the area, SHAUN LUCIEN netted from close range. Leiston were passing the ball around nicely in midfield at times, with Rob Eagle defending well and also showing good distribution. Biggleswade had a couple of more half chances but they added to their lead with just three minutes remaining in the first half as a mistake at the back let ‘The Waders’ in to cross from the left and MATTHEW BALL made no mistake to dispatch the ball home.
Joseph White got in behind the Blues defence after the interval but Beckwith was on hand to save with his legs. The same player then headed over from the corner. Quevin Castro stroked an effort on the edge of the area that hit the crossbar and Will Davies follow up was deflected wide. Biggleswade started to dominate again though and from a moved worked down the left hand side, LIAM BROOKS stroked home from close range to seal the points. Sebastia Pons Llado tested Samuel Donkin in the away goal as the last few minutes of the match died down. Biggleswade were to add a fourth goal in the 85th minute as a brilliant run by JOSEPH WHITE saw him clean through on goal to smash into the roof of Beckwith’s net. Late on, Joshua Hitter and Robert Eagle were booked for late challenges as Leiston were condemned to a seventh league defeat of the season.
