The Blues lost their 10th game in all competitions in succession as they were put to the sword at Peterborough Sports at the weekend. Manager Ian Cornforth gave a first start to Sam Allen while new loan signing Thomas Hughes from Ipswich Town started up front. Kyran Clements and Rhys Henry dropped to the bench.
The Blues began the game well but conceded after just seven minutes when Richard Jones netted from a corner. Charlie Beckwith denied Jim Stevenson with a fine tip on to the bar after a header from the home player but Mark Jones doubled the lead as Peterborough scored a second goal moments later as he scrambled home another corner. Mark Jones scored his second and the hosts third goal not long after heading in after Cameron Johnson had the original effort. The scoring didn’t stop and Leiston just couldn’t stop the flow and attacking threat from Peterborough. In the 24th minute, Dion Sembie-Ferris added a fourth goal after a good finish. Charlie Beckwith made two more outstanding stops to deny Sembie-Ferris but the home side made it five as Richard Jones was able to roam free at the back post and head past Beckwith from close range.
Leiston made a double substitution at the break and they started to play much better. Loan signing Thomas Hughes from Ipswich Town had a free kick brilliantly touched onto the crossbar by home keeper Lewis Moat but Rhys Henry managed to shoot past the keeper to score inside the area after Leiston won the ball back immediately. But this seemed to spark Peterborough into more of an attacking mode and sub Marshall Willock added a sixth goal. Sembie-Ferris headed in late on while with two minutes of normal time to go, Iuri Fernandes handballed in the area and Sembie-Ferris stepped up to send Beckwith the wrong way and leave Leiston still searching for that elusive win.
Leiston visit Stratford Town next Saturday in their second match of four consecutive away games.
