Glen Driver and Tony Kinsella started with a defeat as Hednesford Town went back with a 3-0 win on a cold night at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium, in a match sponsored by PAUL DOWNEY and RON BALDRY, with BARRY SPALL donating towards the match ball.
Byron Lawrence and Kyran Clements came straight back into the side as they arrived back from Braintree Town. Rob Eagle returned from injury but Harry Knights and George Keys (both suspended) and Noel Aitkens (injured) missed out.
The Blues got off to the worst possible start after just four minutes when Charlie Beckwith saved the initial effort but could only divert the ball into the path of ANDRE BROWN who made no mistake to put the visitors into the lead. The game lacked chances for a while with Leiston keeping Hednesford Town at bay. The Blues were moving the ball around well but not looking threatening. Josh Hitter intercepted well with Hednesford Town in possession but he shot high and wide. A second chance came when Kyle Hammond whipped a ball in from the right and Josh Hitter headed straight at the keeper. Hednesford were putting balls into the Leiston area but Kyran Clements and Siju Odelusi were defending well, as were the rest of the side. In the second minute of added on time at the end of the first period, Mason Sinclair cut down the left flank and curled a shot that went just past away keeper Andrew Wycherley’s left hand post.
Leiston came out the blocks slow for the start of the second half and once again ANDRE BROWN got on the scoresheet as he finished well on the edge of the area to score into Charlie Beckwith’s bottom right hand corner. Sub Sebastia Pons Llado could only shoot straight at Wycherley in the visitors goal as Leiston looked to get back into the match. Daniel Glover shot over the crossbar from a free kick for Hednesford at the other end before Will Davies was fouled by Kieran Morris outside the penalty area, with both players receiving yellow cards. The free kick came to nothing however. The match was put to bed in the 68th minute when a cross into the area was headed back across goal and sub KRISTIAN SCOTT nestled the ball into the net. The Blues kept going but the visitors deserved their win on the night.
Leiston now turn their attentions to Saturday when they host Banbury United.
