After a fine 2-1 win against AFC Rushden & Diamonds in the week in Suffolk, the Blues remained 5th in the league table but there are now seven points between Leiston (5th) and 6th place in the league.

Will Davies netted his 12th of the season in all competitions while Adam Mills was on the scoresheet in an impressive performance from Leiston and it was also their first win ever against AFC Rushden & Diamonds in their sixth attempt.

The Blues have had two FA competition battles with Coalville Town in their history. In October 2008, a Stuart Boardley penalty helped defeat Coalville at Victory Road in the FA Cup 3rd Qualifying Round while in March 2011, Leiston went down 1-0 in Leicestershire in the FA Vase quarter-finals.
The two sides met again in August 2018, in Leiston’s first ever game in the Southern League, with Christy Finch and Jake Reed on target. Later that season in January 2019, Matt Blake’s double helped secure a good 2-2 draw. In August 2019, again on the opening day of the season, Will Davies scored in a 1-1 draw. Last campaign, Finlay Barnes netted a late consolation as Leiston succumbed 4-1 to ‘The Ravens’.

Leiston end the month away at Bishop’s Stortford next Saturday in FA Trophy action (Second Round Proper) while in two weeks time they are on the road again at Hednesford Town.
