Game 23/40.
The Blues head to Hertfordshire tomorrow afternoon to take on Royston Town, who currently lie in 7th place. Leiston are one point behind Royston but have four games in hand. They will be without Dylan Switters and Ben Hunter who both moved on loan until the end of the season to St Neots Town and Stowmarket Town respectively in the week.
The match between the sides earlier in the season saw Royston take an early lead but Will Davies levelled late on in the first half with an acrobatic kick. Seb Dunbar will be returning to the side after having missed the Lowestoft Town game due to illness.
Other games in the past have seen the Blues win 5-2 at Garden Walk in August 2018. Goals from Patrick Brothers, Christy Finch, Seb Dunbar, Jake Reed and Matt Blake saw the team to a very good win. In the rematch back in Suffolk in December 2018, a 1-1 draw was played out with Noel Atkins on target. In early December 2019, Leiston fought their way to a 0-0 draw in Hertfordshire.
Blues joint manager Chris Wigger said on Thursday: -
‘As managers when you get periods of bad weather and games being called off it can become an extremely frustrating time. But myself and Darren have been doing this long enough now to understand that that is part of football. So all you can do is make sure that as a group you train hard when you can and focus on being as organised as possible when you do finally get the opportunity to play again. So rolling into a very tough fixture away on Saturday, it’s our job to make sure that the boys are chomping at the bit to get out there and put on a performance to match our last against Lowestoft. This week we have seen two players (Dylan Switters and Ben Hunter) depart for loan periods at other clubs. We wish them both good luck while they are out.’
