Game 26/40.
The Blues are at home for the first time on a Saturday for seven weeks tomorrow as they welcome Alvechurch to the Watson & Hillhouse Stadium, Victory Road, in the Pitching In Southern League Central Premier.
Leiston are four points behind Alvechurch at present, who currently occupy the final play-off place, with three games in hand. After a dip in form in mid November and the start of December, Leiston have won three of their last four league matches. They will, however, be without Siju Odelusi who will start the first match of a three game ban after receiving a straight red card in the 90th minute at Barwell last weekend. Brendan Ocran remains on the sidelines injured.
‘The Church’ have won one of their last seven league fixtures but have progressed to the semi-finals of their respective County Cup competition.
In previous meetings between the sides, they have met five times in domestic action. In February 2019, goals in the last twenty minutes saw George Keys and Christy Finch score to defeat Alvechurch 2-0 in Suffolk. Just a month later, the Blues went down 2-1 to Alvechurch, with Matt Blake putting Leiston ahead. Alvechurch won 2-1 in August 2019 at Victory Road while just before Lockdown and COVID in 2020, Leiston came away with a creditable 0-0 draw up in Worcestershire.

There will be a minutes silence in memory of ex Blues goalkeeper Dudley ‘Shunter’ Shepherd who sadly passed away at the end of last year. Dudley played for the Blues in the 1960’s and early 1970’s and played in the final of the Suffolk Senior Cup final for Leiston, which they lost 2-1 to Oulton Broad in a Replay.
Rob Eagle will receive his 100 club appearance award before tomorrow’s match. Rob signed in the summer of 2017 and has been in excellent form this season.
The Blues Reserves head to Cambridgeshire to face FC Parson Drove tomorrow. The Reserves have won all of their three games in 2022 thus far and progressed to the semi-finals of the CNet Training Suffolk Senior Cup last week after defeating Beccles Town 3-1. Kai Fletcher’s double and Ollie Godbold’s late penalty secured their passage through. They will play either East Bergholt United or Needham Market Reserves in the Last 4, with a date and venue to be confirmed. The Reserves are 13th (out of 16 sides) in the Thurlow Nunn First Division North while FC Parson Drove are 11th.
