The Reserves put another point on the board as they drew 1-1 at King’s Lynn Reserves on Monday evening, writes Trevor Elmy.
The hosts started brightly and 16 year old debutant Leiston keeper Harvey Garnham was called into action in the first minute as he saved at the feet of the dangerous Joseph Taylor. Leiston took the lead in the fourth minute when Louie Bloom finished well on the edge of the area after some good build up play. King’s Lynn enjoyed the majority of possession in the first half but the defensive trio of Charlie Canham, James Gaffer and Sam Allen were proving resolute. Striker Taylor did break clear but Garnham forced him wide and the shot struck the post from the narrowest of angles. Just before the interval, Jourdan Kiwomya forced Charlie Congreve in the home goal to make an acrobatic save to keep the scoreline at 1-0.
Leiston had a great chance to increase their lead thirty seconds after the restart when Adam Blades found himself six yards out in the centre of the goal but time seemed to stand still and he hit his effort straight at Congreve. The game flowed from end to end but it was Leiston who were creating the better of the chances with Kiwomya striking a post and sub Witness Mhango used his pace on two occasions to get one on one with Congreve but the keeper saved his strikes on both occasions. There was a feeling that these missed chances might cost the Blues and in the 90th minute the impressive Joe Taylor latched on to a header over the Leiston defence to dispatch a shot past Garnham to leave King’s Lynn with a share of the spoils.
It was good to see two young teams trying to play in such a positive manner and hear positive encouragement of the players coming from both dugouts.
