OVERVIEW
THE Blues U23s head to Long Melford this weekend for their 13th league fixture of their Thurlow Nunn First Division North campaign, writes Craig Cooper.
Leiston U23s remain bottom of the league after a 4-0 home loss against Halesworth Town last Saturday. Opponents Long Melford have only won one of their last five league fixtures.
The sides met earlier in the campaign, with Mackenzie Travis and Krysztof Michta scoring second half goals as the Blues won 2-0 at the Flannery Stadium in the Suffolk Senior Cup.
The last time the first teams met at Long Melford was in March 2004, when an own goal and Carl Chenery strike gave Leiston a 2-1 win, helping them achieve promotion to the Eastern Counties League Premier Division a month later.
The U23s have also visited Long Melford in the League Challenge Cup 2nd Round earlier this season, with Long Melford winning 1-0, thanks to ex Blues Ollie Hughes’ strike on 53 minutes.
