Five for Frostick as U23s get much needed win

Leiston U23s gained a much needed three points as they won their sixth game in all competitions this season, coming back from 3-1 down after just ten minutes to win 6-4.

Jack Manly and Jude Frostick came into the starting eleven while Ben Batho and Cameron Rayworth also took their place in the side once again.

The Blues began well and created their first chance after just ninety seconds into the contest.

The ball was played into Jack Manly in the penalty area and the Blues players shot was saved by the legs of away keeper Adam Coates.

But, from a half cleared corner, Jude Frostick’s shot was deflected into the back of the net to give Leiston the lead.

The lead though last just three minutes as Corey Kingston did well to hold the ball up in the box and the FC Parson Drove shot lopped over Jack Beresford in the home goal to go into the Blues keeper’s top right hand corner to draw the Cambridge based side level.

Billy Jordan was penalised for a challenge just outside the box three minutes later, with Harrison Taylor’s free kick finding Coates bottom left hand corner.

And just a minute later, on ten minutes, Harry Wallace struck past Beresford from outside the box to make it three to score a well struck led attempt.

It was nearly four on 14 minutes, but Beresford did well to claw a close range attempt around his left hand post.

On 16 minutes, Liam Shaw nearly pulled a goal back for Leiston as his shit just wide of Coates’ left hand upright after good play by Manly, while five minutes later, Coates gathered Manly’s free kick well.

On 22 minutes, Ewan Parlett showed good skill on the Blues right to cross into Frostick but his shot over the bar.

In the 32nd minute, captain Ollie Griggs’ attempt was pushed out well by Coates, but on 34 minutes, the U23s reduced the deficit.

Parlett again did well on the right and centred the ball into the path of Frostick who took a touch before shooting past Coates.

Coates then made a splendid save on 39 minutes to push over Manly’s strike after good play by Rayworth but from the corner, the U23s levelled.

Ben Batho’s set piece was headed home at the back post by Rayworth to end the scoring in a very eventful half.

Coates then made another fine save to deny Manly after good play by Rayworth on the Blues right.

For all the chances Leiston had, FC Parson Drove most probably had the best chance to score another goal when on 45 minutes, Kingston shot wide after the away side broke quickly upfield.

The last action in the half saw Coates down to save Parlett’s effort before referee Ms Francesca Catchpole blew the whistle for half time.

The Cambridgeshire side nearly took the lead five minutes into the second period but Beresford was out well and Billy Jordan cleared the attempt off the line, but the offside flag was raised.

On 55 minutes, Anthony Hall headed a ball over from a corner as FC Parson Drove started brightly after the restart but it was the Blues who took the lead on 57 minutes when Archie Hubert’s ball found Manly further upfield and the Blues player crossed into the box for Frostick who headed home for his hat-trick goal.

A ten minute spell saw chances few and far between, with Hubert and Rayworth clearing away a free kick and Manly seeing a deflected shot easy for Coates.

Sub Charlie Atkin nearly made it five but his effort was deflected just wide by an away defender but on 71 minutes, Frostick put a ball home from the corner to net another goal.

However, on 75 minutes, Harrison Taylor scored his second goal of the day from the penalty spot after Rayworth had fouled in the penalty area.

Parlett nearl finished the game on 79 minutes but the player’s attempt was just over after a good ball behind the away defence by Rayworth.

On 85 minutes, Atkin was denied by a good block inside the box.

Late on, FC Parson Drove put some good balls into the area that Leiston defended well against.

On 94 minutes, a corner by the visitors was headed out by Jordan and the ball fell to Rayworth who released sun Stan Horne. Fellow sub Owen Lavery then beat Coates to the ball with Frostick being slipped in and the Blues player rolled the ball into the net to finish off the game with virtually no time left for FC Parson Drove to restart the game.
