OVERVIEW
THE Blues U23s are on the road for their third game on the bounce this weekend when they head to Halesworth Town in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North, writes Craig Cooper.
The U23s are now five points off second from bottom team Wivenhoe Town after the Essex side won 1-0 at Wroxham Reserves on Wednesday night.
Halesworth Town have been on a good run and had recently won five games on the trot before losing late on to Long Melford on Tuesday night at Dairy Hill, with Long Melford scoring a goal in stoppage time to win 2-1.
Halesworth remain in 7th place in the league table, with 48 points from 32 league games. They are now nine points off Stanway Pegasus with six games to play in the league.
They also have a semi-final to play on the last Saturday in April which will take place at Leiston, in the JLS Catering Group Suffolk Senior Cup. Haughley United will play Mutford & Wrentham in the first semi-final (12pm kick off) while Henley Athletic and Halesworth Tow face each other at 4pm in the second last four tie.
Some Blues U23s players played in the U18s side that won in the Veo Boys U18 Midweek Cup on Tuesday night at Debenham LC against Brantham Athletic U18s so they will be hoping to draw confidence from that result which helped Lee Harrison’s side teach the final of the competition.
