The Blues won 3-1 on Tuesday evening at home to Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers, with the three points moving them to just two points behind Wivenhoe Town, with a game in a hand.
Ryan Jarvis and Adam Mills came into the side as Ben Batho, Cameron Rayworth, Archie Hubert and Ewan Parlett dropped out.
Adam Mills had a chance after just twenty seconds but shot straight at Kingsley Barnes in the away goal.
On five minutes, Stan Horne shot wide for Leiston before on 12 minutes, Owen Lavery’s excellent through ball found Mills in got in on goal but shot wide of Barnes’ right hand post.
In the 15th minute, Liam Shaw won a tackle in the Blues back line to release Warren Buckman who threaded a ball behind the away defence to Mills but the players cross went out of play.
In the 19th minute, the lively Mo Mair did well on Dussindale’s left and got into the Blues penalty area but Connor Crane was there to make a good challenge in the box. From the corner, a free kick was given on the edge of the box but Leiston blocked the free kick and cleared their lines.
Charlie Marshall shot wide for Dussindale just before the half hour while Stan Horne saw a shot blocked moments later at the other end.
On 33 minutes, Lavery’s corner hit a post before Barnes saved Mills and Jude Frostick’s follow up effort.
Two minutes later, and Lavery’s corner again hit a post but Charlie Atkin was on hand to bundle the ball over the line to give Leiston the lead.
On 41 minutes, Mills was denied by a good Barnes save before the midfielder’s effort deflected just wide of Barnes’ left hand upright from Lavery’s ball through.
Thirty seconds after the break, Ryan Jarvis’ attempt on the edge of the box was blocked before Warren Buckman struck his shot at Barnes.
Frostick then went close for the Blues but Dussindale levelled on 49 minutes when Callum Cox shot home just inside the box.
But Leiston didn’t panic and Mills netted the Blues second goal on 58 minutes, shooting home past Barnes after a good run into the box by Horne.
Marshall and Mair then had shots on goal for the away side, with Mair getting in again on 69 minutes but shooting at Beresford.
Adam Mills, though, doubled the lead on 73 minutes, taking a touch before blasting past Barnes from a clever Ryan Jarvis ball.
Late on, Leiston defended well to restrict Dussindale of any clear cut chances, with a strike going wide in stoppage time and a header going over Beresford’s bar before referee Paul Burnham blew for full time.
