OVERVIEW
THE Blues U23s visit FC Clacton on Tuesday night in the Thurlow Nunn League First Division North as they begin three away games in a row.
The team went ahead on Saturday afternoon in the first half through captain Ollie Griggs but FC Peterborough got two goals before the interval to lead 2-1 and that’s the way it stayed as no more goals were scored in the second half as FC Peterborough held on for the points.
Wivenhoe Town lost 2-1 at home to Halesworth Town so the U23s remain two points behind the Essex club, with tomorrow night being the game in hand over Wivenhoe Town.
Jack Beresford could return for Leiston after the keeper missed Saturday’s loss with FC Peterborough after serving a one game suspension.
Nathaniel Copping took his place and made his debut for the side. FC Clacton are 12th at present and had a good 1-0 win at Dussindale & Hellesdon Rovers at the weekend. They have 40 points from their 31 games so far, having won 12, drawn 5 and lost 15.
Earlier in the campaign, the Blues and FC Clacton drew 2-2 in Suffolk on Saturday, 2nd August 2025.
Oscar Manly and Liam Shaw netted for the Blues while Benjamin Sargeant scored FC Clacton’s goals in front of a crowd of 64.
This will be the first time that the sides have met at this level in Essex, but the first team have played Clacton Town before.
The first team went to Clacton Town in their first year at Step 5 on Tuesday, 5th April 2005 but Clacton refused to play the game (due to a club issue) and Leiston were rewarded the three points later on in the season.
Leiston then beat Clacton 4-0 away from home the following season on Saturday, 17th December 2004. Donny George, Luke Hammond, Lee McGlone and Stewart Roach were on target as the Blues finished 9th and Clacton Town finished bottom.
