Leiston Reserves won their last Saturday home fixture of the season at the weekend as they defeated Norwich CBS, who have secured a play-off place, in Suffolk.
Leiston’s win keeps them in 10th place in the division but they can come as high as 7th still with their two remaking matches away at Sheringham and at home to Great Yarmouth Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
Norwich took the lead as early as the third minute. Jamie North cut in from the right and forced Harrison Podd into an excellent save but Lewis Johnson fired him the loose ball. The goal though lifted the young Reserves and Oliver Godbold headed just wide from a corner. They drew level on 24 minutes when Godbold’s corner was met by George Tuck and he put the ball over the line with the defenders attempt to clear the ball off the line in vain. Leiston produced some more good passing to try and get behind the away defence but it was the Norfolk side to venture in front again when a player was fouled in the box and Jamie North fired home at the second time of asking after Podd saved the spot kick. With the match getting close to half time, Nyan Mesuira shot home to level the contest on the edge of the area while the Reserves won a free kick a minute after the restart on the edge on the box once again, Mesuira shot low once again into Joe McLoughlin’s bottom right hand corner.
Jamie North shot over early in the second half while Nicky Shopov’s cross wasn’t dealt with by the keeper but Norwich eventually cleared. The Reserves extended their lead on 57 minutes when Ollie Godbold saw McLoughlin off his line and the keeper couldn’t get back to make it 4-2. Podd had to be alert to keep a couple of efforts out by the lively North while Spencer Keller but just wide after good work from Liam Cork. Keller had a better chance to score late on but shot over when well placed. Norwich CBS pulled a goal back on 79 minutes as Lewis Johnson shot into Podd’s bottom left hand corner but Leiston held firm in the final few moments with the youngsters at the back showing great maturity and the side were pleased to get another three points against a side who can still get promoted this season.
