Great Yarmouth Town v Leiston U23
Saturday 19th August 2023
Thurlow Nunn Division One North
Starting Line-up: Marcus Mehew, Jack Dawson, Ethan Oldman, Adam BaileyDennis, Ben Batho, Cameron Young, Ollie Griggs, Mitchell Jackson (C), Ashdon
Fowler, Charlie Atkin, Joe McNeil
Bench: Emille Dozzell, Connor Green, Reagan King, MacKenzie Travis
The U23s travelled to Great Yarmouth Town with three changes to the starting
line-up that had suffered defeat at Holbeach United and included Adam BaileyDennis, making his return after another injury lay off. The visit meant a chance
to catch up with the Blues previous management team of Ryan Honeyman and
Ricky Cleverley along with former players Kyle French and Liam Cork. The
home side started the season well, winning their opening three games but
suffered a heavy defeat at Wivenhoe Town last time out.
There was little to choose between the sides in a first half that was
characterised by misplaced passes and a lack of cutting edge in front of goal
with neither goalkeeper being called into action.
Half Time: Great Yarmouth Town 0 – 0 Leiston U23
The second half was very much a mirror image of the first half with the slight
exception that the U23s were marginally the better side and had the one shot
in the game that forced a goalkeeper to make a save. Charlie Atkin struck his
right foot shot well and it looked to be destined for the far corner until the
home goalkeeper, Rueben Lane, dived to his right to push the ball around the
far post. Excitement over.
Full Time: Great Yarmouth Town 0 – 0 Leiston U23
A fair result on the day and one which gives the U23s their first point of the
season and lifts them off the bottom of the table. The U23s clean sheet was
their first since they last visited The Wellesley almost a year ago when both
Kyle & Liam were in the Blues side that recorded a 2-0 win with Harrison Podd
in the visitor’s goal.
