Line Up: Jordi Wilson, Kian Wilson, Ethan Oldman, Rossi Jarvis, Billy Jordan, Ollie Griggs, Ollie Saunders, Josh Yaxley, Jake Spooner, Joe McNeil, MacKenzie Travis
Bench: Ashdon Fowler, Warren Buckman, Max Crane
Leiston U23’s returned to Victory Road with the three points won at Haverhill Borough on the previous Saturday but with a changed line up. With Marcus Mehew travelling to Royston with the 1st team Jordi Wilson made his debut in goal. Rossi Jarvis returned to action after a frustrating period out of action due to injury. After a brief substitute appearance on Saturday for the 1st team Ollie Saunders was given more minutes with the U23s. Charlie Atkin was also missing from Saturday’s line up joining Marcus on the bench at Royston.
As league leaders following Saturday’s results the visitors should have come to this game full of confidence but their start was anything but that. So it was no real surprise when the U23s took the lead after about a quarter of the game when OLLIE GRIGGS pounced on a rebound to fire the home side into the lead. The lead was however short lived as within minutes Framlingham were level, Johnny Kerridge getting the last touch after a scramble in the six yard box. A scramble that led to a lengthy delay as both Jordi Wilson and to a lesser extent Billy Jordan received treatment for cuts to the head. In the case of the former it meant a change of both shirt and shorts. The sides very much cancelled each other out for the remainder of the half.
Half Time: Leiston U23 1 – 1 Framlingham Town
Despite equalising the visitors didn’t look confident and were beginning to show signs of frustration as the U23’s defended strongly all over the pitch and it was the U23s who re-took the lead despite having less of the possession in the half up to this point. A second follow up after a rebound saw OLLIE GRIGGS on the scoresheet again. Framlingham pressed hard for the equaliser and in added on time thought they should have been awarded a penalty but the referee ignored their protests.
