The Reserves suffered their first home defeat in four games as they were beaten by promotion challengers Swaffham Town. Playing their first home game after five successive away games, the first half was a close affair with the visitors narrowly ahead at the interval. However, in the second half third placed Swaffham, the Divisions second highest scorers, netted four more times before Owen Hammond netted a late consolation for the Reserves as the game ended 5-1 to the Norfolk side.
Leiston had George Keys making his Leiston debut as he couldn't play for the first team in the FA Trophy as he was cup tied. The Blues started the brighter side, with Nikki Shopov looking a threat down the left hand side and Matt Rutterford and Chris Alcock playing well in midfield. However, Swaffham started to play with more tempo and Tom Mansfield dealt with some long balls well with good calmness. The away side took the lead from a corner and the ball was headed into the net after being knocked back from the far post.
In the second half, Swaffham took their second and third goal's very well, the first from a free kick that Finley Noon, who was making his league debut (he played against Gorleston in the League Cup earlier in the season), had no chance with. The Norfolk side added two more goals, before the Reserves added a late consolation goal from Owen Hammond after the Swaffham keeper had parried a free kick.
The Reserves next match is next Saturday as they visit Needham Market Reserves in league action.
