Blues go down to March at Victory Road

Leiston Reserves were unfortunate to go down to a late goal at Victory Road on Saturday against Cambridgeshire based March Town United. The away side had the first attempt on goal as Jack Friend curled an effort wide of Joe Potter's right hand post. Nicky Shopov's free kick was taken easily by away keeper Simon Dalton while Ben Morling was unlucky to get booked for a challenge. From a corner, Craig Gillies headed against a post for March while Potter was deceived by the bounce of the ball moments later and James Gaffer cleared off the goal line with a March player waiting to put home the loose ball. Friend glanced a header wide from a corner as March began to have a good little spell but it was Leiston who took the lead in the 34th minute as Jourdan Kiwomya took advantage inside the penalty area to rifle home past Dalton. Leiston defended well for the rest of the half and Lewis Gibson fired narrowly over the crossbar in the final action of the half.

The Reserves started the second period on the front foot and were unlucky not to score a second as Nicky Shopov hit the inside of the post from outside the area and Toby Groom's follow up shot was palmed behind by Dalton. A couple of minutes later and Drew Connick was denied by Dalton as the keeper made another good block. Craig Gillies tried to lob Joe Potter in the home goal but the keeper clawed away the effort. Jack Rawson hit a free kick over the bar as time for March while Callum Pearce hit the side netting for the home side. Potter thwarted Gillies yet again but March were awarded a penalty in the 71st minute and James Gaffer was dismissed. Craig Gillies made no mistake from the spot to level the match. Both teams made subs to try and influence the game. Louie Bloom was off target and Gillies headed wide of Potter's left hand post. Dalton mishandled a cross into the box and the Blues couldn't convert and in the 91st minute at the other end a cross from the left hand flank saw Danny Emmington volley past Potter to take home the points.

The Reserves travel to King's Lynn Town Reserves tomorrow for their next match.
