Leiston Reserves won their first league match of the season after defeating King’s Lynn Town Reserves 2-0 at the Watson & Hillhouse Victory Road Stadium.
Paul Stannard took charge for the Reserves as Reserve Manager Ian Cornforth took care of first team matters in the absence of Stuart Boardley.
A move down the left hand side early on for the visitors was pulled back to Joseph Taylor, but he was denied by the legs of Charlie Beckwith in goal. From the corner, Beckwith claimed well. The Reserves first sight of goal came with Kion Parchmont crossing from the right flank and the away defender nearly putting in his own net. The lively Natty Stewart was denied by a good block by Beckwith shortly later and Taylor had another good chance but could only find the side netting. Harrison Bacon did well to win a corner and from his delivery James Gaffer headed in unmarked to give the Blues the lead in the 28th minute. Ben Morling then flicked a ball from close range at an angle which hit the bar and Mason Sinclair smashed the follow up from distance also against the crossbar. The final action of the half saw Taylor shoot over Beckwith’s bar.
The second period began scrappy for both sides, with Stewart hitting over after a good move down the Blues left hand side. Beckwith made another good save from the same player as the away side looked for an equaliser with both teams starting to make substitution’s. Adam Blades added the Reserves second of the game in the 77th minute when he turned his marker in the penalty area to strike home excellently past goalkeeper Aydin Duran. Stewart again tested Beckwith but the young keeper made his best save of the match to deny the midfielder with a tip over his right hand post. Lynn applied pressure late on, with Sam Allen blocking a shot well and Beckwith saved at the feet of Stewart as it looked as though he would round the keeper to net.
The Reserves next play this coming weekend when they visit Haverhill Borough in further league action.
