Reserves defeat Felixstowe & Walton United Reserves to win their second match of the season

The Reserves notched up their second victory of the season to move up to 12th in the league table.

Jake Jessup started in goal while Spanish duo Albert Serra Parrondo and Sebastia Pons Llado came into midfield.

The Blues started off the game well. A corner to the back post found the head of James Gaffer but but he headed over the bar. Parrondo struck a shot after more good build up play, but his strike was easy for Danny Crump. Sam Newson nearly found the net shortly later from Parrondo’s free kick but headed just wide. Felixstowe came close to getting in behind the Leiston defence to have their first attempt on goal but Mason Sinclair was on hand to intercept and to clear any danger. Good work from Josh Lee on the right hand side got him in on goal at an angle but Jake Jessup was out well to get a fingertip the ball round for a corner. The Reserves took the lead in the 26th minute as Albert Serra Parrondo fired home a free kick low into Crump’s bottom left hand corner. Jessup denied Adam Hanson with an outstretched boot while Ollie Dunlop hit the woodwork moments later for Felixstowe. Just six minutes before the break, Sebastia Pons Llado turned on the edge of the area to see his shot have a slight deflection to wrong foot Crump and double Leiston’s lead. Ryan Chidlow tested Jessup from distance for the visitors from the restart but Leiston could have had a third after good work by Harrison Bacon down the right flank but Kion Parchmont found the side netting.

The second half was just two minutes old when Albert Serra Parrondo got away from his marker to volley over Crump’s head to score his second of the night. Crump saves well from Parchmont but Felixstowe could have pulled a goal back but Jessup clawed Chidlow’s shot away brilliantly. Parchmont played in Pons Llado however Crump again saved well. In the Blues’ next chance, Mason Sinclair travelled forward well with the ball and hit his shot with venom but once again Crump stood up well. Quick thinking by Parrondo from a free kick gave Sam Newson a free reign at the back post but Crump again made a great save. Felixstowe started to have a good spell, with corners and free kicks floated into the box, but the Blues stood up well to the challenge. Leiston’s finishing was letting them down to add to their tally while Crump produced a good save from Pons Llado. In the 90th minute, Parrondo’s sweetly struck shot on the edge of the area found the bottom of Crump’s bottom right hand corner. There was time for a consolation for the ‘Seasiders’, with Rory Porter finishing well inside the box but the night belonged to Leiston.

The Reserves next match is on Saturday 7th September at home to Framlinghan Town.
