BLUES goalkeeper Billy Johnson says the team are concentrating on their own affairs and not worrying about other clubs in the division.
Johnson and his team-mates were set to meet St Ives Town on Saturday, but a frozen pitch saw the game called off mid-morning on Saturday.
“We don’t spend too much time worrying about where other teams are in the league or how they’ve been getting on, as the league is so tight,” Johnson said.
“We feel it’s best to focus on us and keep our momentum going. The play-offs feel within touching distance and that’s a nice goal for us to work towards.”
A decent festive period saw Leiston pick up seven points from a possible 12, but they then backed it up with a terrific 1-0 victory over second-placed Stratford Town last weekend.
It was a result and performance enjoyed not just by the fans, but the players and management also, despite losing centre-half Eddie Jackson early on through injury.
“Yes, last week’s win against Stratford was a fantastic one,” Johnson said.
“It was good to get the three points to round off a busy period. We’ve been very good defensively and Stratford gave it a good go, but we stayed strong until the end.
“There have been changes at the back because of injuries mainly, but the same mentality has existed throughout, so even when we lose players like Eddie, as we did last week, it doesn’t shake us up much. We’re solid no matter who plays.”
The Blues welcomed back club captain Seb Dunbar to the starting line-up last week against the Warwickshire side, Dunbar having been out much of the season through injury.
“It’s great to have Seb back. He’s a big character in the group,” Johnson added.
