OLLIE Saunders has given a huge boost to the Blues, signing a new two-year deal with the Club.

Ollie, 22, who was voted both managers’ player-of-the-year and committee player-of-the-year at the recent end-of-season awards, put pen to paper at the weekend, saying the decision was an ‘easy one’ to make.

“I’m very happy to get this new contract signed,” Ollie said.

“The decision was an easy one after the year we had last year. It felt right to go again as a squad and try and go one better this season.

“We’re confident as a group to produce another good season and we will try and get the Club to the next level, which the fans and everyone involved deserves.”

SEASON TICKETS… How to get yours…

Ollie, who has made 126 appearances for the Blues, including 49 last season, had an impressive campaign just gone, and joint boss Chris Wigger is delighted to get his signature again.

“Having Ollie commit to us for another two seasons is fantastic news,” Chris said.

“Ollie has continued to develop in mine and Darren’s time here and we both believe he still has more in the tank. Last season was his best so far and it’s players like Ollie that will continue to push this group onwards and hopefully upwards.”

Chris also admitted this season’s Blues squad is beginning to form well.

“The squad is coming together nicely,” he said. “The boys looked in great shape on their return to training Saturday.”

Indeed, the Leiston first-team squad held their first training session of the new season on Saturday in bright sunshine at Victory Road. It was a good work-out for the Blues with several players from younger squads within the Club, also joining in.

Ross Crane and Chris Casement are two new signings joining the Blues this season, with many of last season’s squad signing new deals, including Joe Marsden and Sam Donkin.

PRE-SEASON schedule for the Blues….

Meanwhile, Kai Fletcher has left Leiston to join newly-promoted Ipswich Wanderers, who are playing at Step 4 this season after promotion from the Eastern Counties Premier League last season.

Kai played six games in total for the first team during his time at Victory Road, netting one goal, while scoring 22 times in 37 appearances for the reserves, as well as enjoying a loan spell at Brantham Athletic at the back end of last season.
