Terrace Talk: Sowesters, wet socks and doing the Pools!

Dunn's Pit7 Feb - 07:49

The talk on the Leiston terraces this week was the draw at Bury and looking ahead to a drier experience at Barwell!

I HOPE it's a bit drier at Barwell this afternoon.

Me and Tick Tock have only just dried out from Tuesday night at Bury where sowesters were the order of the day. Even Tick Tock's Peppa Pig socks are still hanging on the radiator.

I know this because I've just picked him up for the Barwell trip. They were hanging there looking very sorry for themselves!

Anyhow, back to Tuesday night. The game was at least a rip-roaring derby albeit in awful conditions and both sides deserve great credit in the driving rain.

At one point I half expected the physios to enter the field with welly boots but fair play to Bury, the pitch held up really well.

Tick Tock had obviously seen the forecast as he brought his welly boots, along with his PP socks, while I had my old polyveltds (ask your grand parents) to protect my feet.

So for the 11th time this season the mighty Blues failed to turn one point into three.

That got me thinking, 11 draws back in the day would have won you a tidy sum on the Vernon Pools!

But this season the prize currently is the most draws in the league, it won’t be long before the three point hauls return I’m sure.

Hopefully today at Barwell.

+++++++

So, this week we saw the end of the transfer window and it rolled into 11pm without a great deal of spend certainly compared to three of the last four years of course.

Perhaps clubs didn’t feel the need to release their purse strings this winter.

There wasn’t any last minute scrambling for signatures as a fairly quiet window (last day deals) closed.

Sticking with fairly quiet and the two midweek League Cup semi-finals went to form.

Both second legs were pretty routine affairs and the top two sides currently at the top of the Premier League will face off in March.

Sadly, there was little drama in either of the cup ties, pretty much the story of the week really.
